The Value of Failure

J.K Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, spoke to the graduating class of Harvard in June 2008. “You might never fail on the scale I did,” Rowling told her audience. “But it is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all−in which case, you fail by default. She should know. The author didn’t magically become richer than the Queen of England overnight. Penniless, recently divorced, and raising a child on her own, she wrote the first Harry Potter book on an old manual typewriter. Let’s address the impact of the word ‘failure’ from the beginning. What an annoying word, so much so that almost everyone prefers to avoid the topic, either sub-consciously or even consciously. There are many definitions of failure, and even more for success. However, the definition of failure might be easier to simplify. In a nutshell, it could be said that failure is not achieving one’s goal – whatever that goal may be.

Behind Every Successful Woman is a Great Man

Gone are the days when the domain of women was restricted to the home, the raising of healthy children and the management of family social life. 10 Secrets of Healthy Ageing

As a guide to longevity this is truly a remarkable book and a must-read essential to good health. Although it contains and refers to quite a number of medical terms, acronyms, conditions, medicines (drugs) and treatments, which at first may seem at least a little complicated, it is written in such a way that almost anyone would be able to follow the frame of thought put forward in each of the clearly marked, relatively short chapters, sections, and sub-sections. As its title and sub-title, ‘How to Live Longer, Look Younger and Feel Great’ suggest, this book is all about living healthily in an effort to live longer and prosper in life. The book and the programmes suggested do not guarantee immortality, however it does give a clear-cut and detailed guide on how to put off ageing through following various guidelines. The book is set out over three main sections: ‘The Truth about Healthy Ageing’, ‘The Ten Secrets’ and ‘Your Anti-Ageing Action Plan’. From the beginning, the reader is given a ‘guide to abbreviations, measures and references’ to make things easier to grasp.
